The Best Sandwich Ever

I’m here interrupting our previous radio silence for an important message. And an apology. I can’t believe I’ve never posted the best sandwich ever on here before! And for this, I am immensely sorry. But, lucky for you, the instructions on making the best sandwich ever will follow shortly. (That’s the important message…in case you were still waiting for that.)

Yet again, it’s another recipe from an awesome lady I know. The same lady I referenced here. And here. I may have intruded into their lives a little much now that I think back on it…

So Long – A Blogger Walks Away

Share Button

Sometimes what we want and what is best don’t coincide. So for now, so long my friends.

Dear Blogging World and My Dedicated Readers,

After much reflection, a few tantrums, and a great dose of reality, I have determined that full-time professional blogging isn’t for me. I know that there are many, many full-time bloggers that earn incomes or do it for the love of writing that will argue with my reasons but the truth is, they are MY reasons, so all arguments are invalid.

You see, I started blogging partially as a way to earn a side income but mostly as a way to help people. I wanted to share things that I knew that other people could benefit from knowing; whether those things were about gardening, parenting, budgeting, or cooking. And I did. I shared a lot of things that I’m proud to have on this blog and proud to have written.

More Thorns Than Roses

Share Button

Every rose has its thorn, but the thorns also have their rose.

I am a pessimistic realist. (My husband says that just makes me a pessimist.) I look at life in a very straightforward way but I do typically expect that “anything that can go wrong, will.”

I’m also a little obsessive over fairness. Because life isn’t fair but I really wish it was. I get upset easily over injustices. I actually count out every candy as I put in in the Christmas stockings to make sure the boys get equal amounts. Yes, I am that crazy.

Simplifying

Share Button

When I started blogging, I decided to write a little bit about anything that came to mind to figure out what I really wanted to say that was different from what everyone else was saying. And thank you for hanging around through my wild ramblings and the whiplash I’m sure some of you suffered as I jumped from topic to topic. Through the past several months, I started looking at the posts I’ve most enjoyed writing as well as the posts you all seem to enjoy reading and I finally found myself a niche. (This isn’t to say I’ll stick to it but I’ll start moving more this direction.)

6 Tips for Talking to the Bank When You Are in Trouble

Share Button

In this post, I told you all the woeful tale of dropping the budgeting ball and getting interest, late fees, and overdraft charges, all in the same month. (Oh yeah, read her financial advice. She’s obviously an expert! 😉 ) I told you how it happened, and what I learned but I didn’t really go into much detail about how I got help reversing these fees when I talked to the bank. I’d like to explain that process a little more clearly now because I’m sure many of you have found yourself in a similar situation or may one day. So read on for my tips for talking to the bank.

Excuse My Messy House, My Husband Doesn’t Care

Share Button

So remember my real life friend Erica from this post? Well, she’s back again today! See, she read my post about why I don’t apologize for my messy house, and she had some really great insight. She started talking to me about it and I said, “You should just write it up for me!” And she did. 🙂 So yay for us!

Oh and in case you forgot, she blogs at Dresses and Spurs all about crafting and she’s awesome at it! So go check her out there when you’re done reading her here.

Why We Don’t Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Share Button

Long post short: We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day to improve our marriage.

Wow. Ta-da! My job here is done.

Actually, we decided before we got married to never celebrate Valentine’s Day during the premarriage discussion we had. My idea.

Am I a fun hater? Maybe.

Has it saved us from fights and hurt feelings on more than one occasion? Heck yeah.

See, I’ve never really liked the pressures the world puts on us to buy gifts and do grand gestures so it started out as more of a boycott of “the system” than anything else. We had been married almost a year before we had our first Valentine’s Day and it was then that I saw this was WAY more than a boycott – it was marriage salvation.

Rest in Peace – First Friday Flashback

Share Button

I recently found a folder of some of my old college writing and asked all of you who follow me on Facebook if you would be interested in reading any of it. I got all yeses (← such a strange looking word!) so here we go! Since it is a limited amount of content, and no more can be created when it runs out, I thought I would share some one once a month on the first Friday.

Hopefully we can all have a little fun with this.

I won’t pretend that I still hold all these opinions. Heck, I won’t pretend I even held them all back then. Sometimes I was just looking to be controversial. But some of this writing definitely does make me think… and feel. Hopefully you all get something out of them. Even if it’s only a good laugh at my silly college mind! (Don’t you sometimes miss the days when you knew it all and had everything figured out?)

Is Bringing Home the Bacon Enough?

Share Button

Today I’d like to welcome a real life friend of mine to the blog. So far, all my guest posts have come from people I’ve met online through blogging. This one, I ACTUALLY know! And she’s awesome. She runs a crafting blog called Dresses and Spurs and seriously, she could keep up with Martha Stewart. She’s one of those people who can actually do the Pinterest crafts the rest of us envy. But today, she isn’t going to talk to us about crafting. If you want to see that, head here to see her blog of awesomeness. Today, she’s addressing a simple question, “Is bringing home the bacon enough?”
